Taking/Storing Bontril
Most people take Bontril once a day on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning, 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast. Since Bontril is a sustained release (SR) tablet, it must be swallowed whole. It cannot be cut in half, crushed or chewed. The important thing to know is that Bontril will work best if taken as prescribed by a doctor.
People who decide to take Phendimetrazine, the generic form of Bontril, will need to take it 2 or 3 times a day, about an hour before meals. Phendimetrazine tablets can be cut in half for a lower dosage. In no case, however, should more than 2 tablets be taken at a time, nor should the product be taken more than 3 times a day.
Take each dose with a full 8-oz. glass of water.
Bontril Dosage Mistakes
What If I Forget to Take a Dose of My Bontril?
Take the missed dose as soon as remembered, unless it is almost time for the next dose or late in the day. If that happens, skip the missed dose and get back on schedule with the next dose. Never take a double dose in an attempt to play catch up. Taking a missed dose too late in the day may cause sleep troubles that night.
What If I Take Too Much Bontril by Mistake?
If too much Bontril is taken, the following symptoms could occur. Any of these symptoms may be an indication of a Bontril overdose:
- unusual restlessness
- mental confusion
- hallucinations
- feelings of panic
- feeling belligerent
- fatigue and depression
- severe changes in blood pressure
- convulsions
If experiencing any of these symptoms, seek medical attention right away. Never take more Bontril than is prescribed or for a longer period than prescribed.
How/Where Should I Store My Bontril?
All medication—including Bontril—should be stored, tightly closed, in its original container. It should be kept at room temperature, in a place that is not close to heat, light or moisture. Make sure this product is out of the reach of children or anyone with mental confusion who might take it by mistake.
