Bontril is the brand name for the generic medication known as Phendimetrazine tartrate. (This is not the same drug as Phentermine, although it is similar in action and effects.)
Bontril (a yellow/green 105-mg capsule) is a slow-release medication that while taken only once a day keeps working all day long. It can be purchased in 1-month (30 capsules), 2-month (60 capsules) and 3-month (90 capsules) supplies.
There are also a number of generic forms of this drug, which are sold under the name Phendimetrazine. The generic medication is a lower dose, 35-mg. These tablets--which can be round or oblong--come in many colors, including: gray, blue, pink, speckled, white and yellow.
How Do I Find the Right Dose?
To be safe, this and all prescription medications should be taken exactly as directed by a doctor. A doctor can determine the correct dosage based on BMI, current weight, medical history, weight loss goals and other factors. Most doctors will start off by prescribing a low dose, to see how it reacts, and will increase the dose later if needed.
If using the generic form, Phendimetrazine, the product needs to be taken 2 or 3 times a day, rather than once daily as with Bontril.
Remember to talk with a doctor if expected results are not obtained while taking Bontril.
